Indian culture have extraordinary history of costumes. As a mixed culture land India have a wide variety of wearing stuff and styles.

Indian weather is mostly warm hot weather, Ancient Indians used to not wear properly stitched clothes, they had their style of single and double drape cotton (wrapped up long piece of clothes just like romans) with long jewellery pieces and wooden sandals, nudity were acceptable that time and they used to wear body jewellery instead of blouses and shirts.

Indian outfits and style of wearing started changing after Muslim invasion in the region. They came with lots of clothing styles which modified their culture with class and beauty.

They bought wide variety of apparels and modified wearing style just like (kaftan, coats, chadar, kurta, pajama) and Mughals gave refined costumes to India, they use too wear long stitched dresses and decorated clothes) they made costumes "Rule of Behavior" instead of weather protection and beauty or ornamental decoration for body, "The Proper Dressing", the culture of turbans, jubba, caps for man and purdah/veil (chadar, ghonghat, naqab) nose rings, long coats salwar qamiz, frocks for women established in this period.

Mughals were from Uzbekistan; came from cooler environment of Turkistan and they used to wear long and thick dresses of animal skin (fur, leather) thick silk with metal studs.

When humayon came from Persia (Iran) he modified dressing in rich clothing; gold and silver embroidery with precious stones and big jewellery for men, that was the start of irani style in India.

Akbar's era were extremely wonderful for variated and rich clothing
